Allium capsule endoscopy
The Alicam capsule endoscopy is a capsule that takes pictures while traveling through the dog's gastrointestinal tract. Due to its size, it is recommended to be used in patients > 5 kg of body weight. This is a non-invasive form of diagnosing gastrointestinal bleeding, especially in the jejunum, which is too fat aborally to be evaluated by an endoscope. The capsule is administered, then retrieved in the feces. The capsule is typically defecated within 2-3 days, but it may take up to 2 weeks in some patients (uncommon).
After retrieval, the capsule is sent to the laboratory to process and interpret the images.
